All Good Things – Mexico

One of my favorite things about playing shows is meeting the other bands on the bill. The day I met John Petty from All Good Things was a great day. He played a phenomenal set late into the night (early into the next morning). As I loaded my equipment out the bar door into my car the snow was falling and I found myself humming a tune. Mexico.

5 Things Learned from the Juiceboxxx Incident

Promoting last week’s East Side Music tour in Milwaukee, local hip-hop artist, Juiceboxxx, made an appearance on the local news. The interview was awkward, the quality of the performance was terrible, and the internet blew up. While the popularity of the video will actually probably help Juiceboxxx in the end, it’s a bit of a shame to see the knee-jerk reaction so many people had to a situation pretty well beyond his control. The incident demonstrated the ugliness that sometimes happens when artists get out of their niche and into the general public. After watching the video several times, looking at Juiceboxxx’s other performances and material, I compiled the top 5 lessons we can learn from the Juiceboxxx incident.

Train On the Island – Old Crow Medicine Show

I’ve got a short but sweet video to kick off your work week. This weekend I rewatched the documentary film The Big Easy Express. For anyone that has yet to watch it, you are missing out. The Highwaymen: Great Song, Terrible Video

Oh man, I’ve had this song stuck in my head all day. I actually really like this song. With Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson you can’t go wrong. I sang this song all the way through the morning. When lunch finally rolled around I sprinted to my computer, got on YouTube and found the video. With coffee in hand I hit play.

Guy On A Buffalo

I can’t believe I have gone so long without ever watching these videos. I’m going to break down the premise for you, and then just leave you to watch and make your own conclusions. The Possum Posse, an Austin Texas based bluegrass band, is at fault here. They basically took a film from the 70s, re-cut it up, and then wrote concept music to accompany the visuals. The result is as awesome as it is hillarious. With no further hesitation I bring you, in four parts, Guy On a Buffalo.

Dave Rawlings Machine – Going to California

I still honestly believe that Gillian Welch And David Rawlings live at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee is the best musical performance I have ever seen. The two were electric. Between their stage presence and the quality of the musicianship the audience was so captivated you could hear a pin drop. Luckily my addiction got another fix when this video of Dave Rawlings Machine covering the Led Zeppelin classic Going to California landed on my desk.
