tUnE-yArDs – Bizness

I love it when music videos attempt to be actual aesthetic representations of the sounds they're set too. I love it even more when they succeed. The video for tUnE-yArDs' "Bizness" is colorful, quirky, animated, and fun. Just like the tune. It's directed by Mimi Cave, but feels like it could have very easily been a Michel Gondry video, which is always a plus in my book. tUnE-yArDs' new album w h o k i l l will be released April 18 via 4AD records. Count me excited.

Aloe Blacc – Loving You Is Killing Me

Oh man. Aloe Blacc debuted his video for "Loving You Is Killing Me" today and it's everything I could want from an Aloe Blacc video and more. It's minimalistic, showcases his killer dance moves, and has him in a dance-off with a child who apparently has extra joints all over his body. How can you not love this guy? He's brimming with soul and charisma. Plus he's so damn stylish. The only downside here is that the video is set to an alternate version of the song that's not as good as the album cut. No matter.

Lupe Fiasco (ft. The Roots) – The Show Goes On (Live on Fallon)

The Roots make everything better. It's just science. Like I wish I could put The Roots on the sandwich I ate for dinner last night, cause that shit sucked. Anyways, Lupe Fiasco performed what is probably my least favorite song on Lasers, "The Show Goes On" on Fallon last night and it was chill as an ice cube. I think there's a formula that says "?uestlove + gospel choir + hip hop song = briliance" but I didn't really pay attention in high school Physics.

XV – All Of This For Me

This is my JAM. I've been stalking @XtotheV's Twitter feed for daysss waiting for this video to hit. It finally did today and it does the song justice. It's pretty damn straight-forward, but it's colorful and full of fast cuts and I'm easily entertained. Vizzy's main mission right now seems to be to work me into a fever pitch waiting for The Kid With The Green Backpack to drop. He's winning.

Nerd Rock Dance Off

Over the weekend Radiohead released their new album and music video – Lotus Flower. At which point the entire online music blogosphere exploded and in three days the video received about 3.5 million hits on youtube alone.

While this may have been a victory for Radiohead and a good omen for the success of their new record, for me, this was a victory for nerd dancing and it got me thinking about some of my other favorite moments in nerd dancing/rock and roll history.

So read on me droogs and see my picks for the nerd rock dance off and then compare them with your own.

Kanye West – All of the Lights

Holy hell. The video for "All of the Lights" is an event. This quickly became my favorite song on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the video doesn't disappoint. It has a simple, B&W lead up that serves to contrast with the strobes and rainbow pallete of the rest of the video. And the first appearances of Yeezy, Kid Cudi, and Rihanna (who is looking exceptionally hot) all feel momentous. Well done, Hype. Also, I'll admit it, I have an unhealthy fetish for videos with animated lyrics (first "Fuck You" video anyone?), but this one takes the cake in that area. Did I mention Rihanna? Oof.

Radiohead – Lotus Flower

Posting things that every single other blog in the Blogosphere is currently writing about is something I try to avoid. But, goddammit, it's Radiohead! In case you're under a massive rock, Radiohead unexpectantly released their album, The King of Limbs, today instead of tomorrow. The Greatest Band in the World also released this video of Thom Yorke gettin' down and dirty for the song "Lotus Flower". It's haunting, beautiful, and full of all the emotion we've come to expect from these masters of their craft. What a great Friday.

Hezekiah Jones – Lift the Shadow From This Heart

Our buddy Smansmith over at Slowcoustic premiered this video today for the hauntingly beautiful Hezekiah Jones track "Lift the Shadow From This Heart". Let's let the man himself explain it: "The video is a great slowed down black and white clip with the song almost floating above the visuals. Not that the visuals necessarily have anything to do with the song per se, but they are just a great background to the song."

Remember to pick up Have You Seen Our New Fort? when it drops (on vinyl too!) March 29.

XV – F.I.F.A.

XV is rapidly becoming one of my favorite MCs. The man makes great jams, plays video games, likes Michel Gondry, reads comics, and (apparently) is into soccer. He's me but, ya know, cooler and more talented.

Here's a new song and video apparently not from his (hopefully) soon to be released album, The Kid With The Green Backpack. I couldn't physically be more amped for this to drop. "F.I.F.A." has Vizzy's clever wordplay and pop culture references – as always. The beat is smooth and bassy, with a great, ghostly subtle piano sample in the background. The video is down-to-earth and creative. It's simply side-to-side shots of the same scene played out differently, but it's entertaining and different.
