We know you are excited for the first Those Who Dig showcase (now a benefit for Sandy relief!), but if you are really jonesing for some great live music before Wednesday, be sure to check out to great female artists when they hit NYC: Cold Specks tonight 11/8 at the Mercury Lounge and Angel Olsen Monday 11/12 at Glasslands.
Cold Specks, the recording name of Al Spx, and Angel Olsen have released two of the best albums of the year with I Predict A Graceful Expulsion and Half Way Home. I have never seen either live, but I would expect each to put on incredible shows.
You can catch the doom soul of Cold Specks tonight at the Mercury Lounge. It's an early show, with opening act Daniel Wayne. By early, I mean it starts at 6:30. It costs $12 and is 21+. Tickets here. Brave the snow storm, you won't regret it. Here's her latest video for "Hector" to get you in the mood.
The weather should be more favorable on Tuesday when Angel Olsen takes the stage at Glasslands. Just like Al, Angel has an incredibly compelling voice, and I feel like it will only be more captivating in a live setting. This one starts at 8:30 and also features Magmana and Bird Call on the bill. It costs $10 and you can get tickets here. Here's a video for her track "Acrobat."
