Always a lot of great live music to see in New York City. Here are two shows I want to recommend you concert-going folk check out this weekend.
On Saturday night (12/1), Six Organs of Admittance will take the stage at the Mercury Lounge. Also performing is Blues Control. The show begins at 10:30 PM, it costs $10 advance & $12 at the door, and is 21+. Ben Chasny is a guy who never seems to get his proper dues as a guitar player. He knows how to shred an electric and he also can make very atmospheric, lovely acoustic music. He's touring for Ascent, a very strong album. Listen to "One Thousand Birds" below and buy tickets here.
On Sunday night (12/2), friends of the Dig Oh! My Blackbird will be performing at The Rock Shop. Now, it could appear I'm a little biased since they just played our very first Those Who Dig presents show a few weeks ago (photos & full recap coming soon!), but I can say completely objectively and emphatically that Oh! My Blackbird is an incredible live band. Don't miss them. Annie, Nick, Veronica, and Zack are all very talented and have a beautiful seamlessness when performing. Especially vocally, their harmonies are amazing. They will play around 8:00, along with Kiernan McMullan and Matt Cranstoun. It's $8 and 21+. Listen to "Dare Me" below (the title track to their most recent album, which you should go buy on Bandcamp) and get tickets to the show here. You can RSVP on Facebook here.
