Soul Cannon is pioneering new frontiers of sound. This Baltimore based hip hop group boasts three conservatory trained musicians and the lyrical maestro emcee EZ Jackson. Their beats are infectious, the grooves are infallible, and the lyrics are cunning, socially aware, and bite with purpose and ambition. Soul Cannon is a credit to Baltimore and a credit to the hip hop genre as a whole.
Their second full length studio release, The Mixed Ape, is now out and the band is celebrating this with a record release party at The Wind Up Space in Baltimore MD this Saturday, July 16th at 10 pm – doors open at 9 pm. The show will also feature guests the Chris Pumphrey Sextext as well as Ghostmode. You can find more information on Facebook here, or via Soul Cannon's Facebook and Twitter feeds.
The new album is hot and I promise you that a full review is coming soon to TWD. In the meantime, if you feel the need to do a little back listening before the party this weekend, you can find the previous album Kaboom for sale here for the low low price of $4.99! I've also pulled a pretty bitchin' video performance of "Talk Less" from their concert with Talib Kweli & Mos Def on their Ecstatic Tour. Finally I'll hit you with a teaser off the new album just to leave you with a good taste and some fresh hip hop to get pumped up about. You dig?
