Got a slew of show listings in NYC for you to check out this week.
Tonight, The Adversary perform in a benefit show for Dru Barnes, a musician who was attacked and badly hurt a few weeks ago. The show is at Glasslands and also features Cole Williams and Hani Zahra. Doors at 8:30 and cost is $10 – all proceeds go towards Dru's medical bills. On a lighter note, check out their cool backwards-forwards video for the reggae-inflected "De La Luna." It's a little bit Pharcyde meets the Verve in concept.
On Thursday, you can see Whale Belly at Spike Hill along with Rice Cultivation Society, SWF, and Bob Doto. This free show has doors at 7:30 and begins at 8:00. Check out the video for their really good single "Water Voices" below. To me, the highlight is the strong harmonies, though there are plenty.
As Samuel L. Jackson says in Jurassic Park, hold on to your butts. Because there are quite a few shows on Friday you might want to see and unless you can clone yourself, you might not get to all of them. I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them, though, so that's good.
- Mal Blum plays Death By Audio with Noun, Modern Hut, Shellshag, & Worriers. $8, 8:00 doors.
- Grand Resort plays an EP release show at Cake Shop with Slonk Donkerson & Dead Young Friends. $6, 8:00 doors.
- Minks plays a record release show for Tide's End (which is out today) at Glasslands with Spires & Green Eyes. $10, 8:00 doors.
- And if you are free during the day, check out Motive along with Justin Baron and Rachel Brotman at the 7@7 Music Fesitval from noon to 1:30.
Don't stop reading yet, there's one more show for Saturday. Field Mouse plays for FREE at Mercury Lounge, as long as you RSVP (here). You can also make donations at the door that will go to Oxfam America. Show is at 10:30 PM.
