Got some show picks for your weekend, plus a video for one of my favorite songs of 2013.
Hey Anna, pictured above, takes the stage at Union Hall on Friday night. They play with Peter Squires and Mission Drift. It costs $8 and the doors open at 8:00. The band will likely play songs from their new EP Pompette, including "Pia," which typically comes towards the end of the set when I've seen them, which included their breathtaking performance at our third NYC TWD showcase in March. They're great, don't miss it!
On Saturday, you can catch our friends Palomino at Tammany Hall. They've been working on hard a new album, and I'm sure they'll be ready to rock. Maybe even play some new tunes. This is another band that has rocked an NYC TWD presents show. They played the very first one and it was spectacular. On the bill of this Upstairs show with doors at 7:00 are Barkhouse and Jus Post Bellum. $5 gets you in.
Mike Zorrilla plays guitar with Chase King and he also has a sweet band of his own, Tiger Dare. They will play on Saturday as well. Along with Raajmahal, Wabi Sabi and Nice Apt., you can see them at Big Snow Buffalo Lodge in Brooklyn (event FB page here). I think it starts at 8:00, but I don't know the cost. Whatever it is, it'll be worth it. Tiger Dare is also on the verge of a new album, which I'm very excited for.
Finally, it's not a show, but our friends Beat Radio released a video for their incredible song "Hurricanes, XO," and I can't resist sharing it. It utilizes black-and-white found footage that seems to have been culled from various sources, though they have a common element of water. It provides an interesting perspective to the song and looks really cool. Have you picked up Hard Times, Go! yet? If not, you really should.
UPDATE: It turns out, Brian Sendrowitz is playing solo at Brooklyn Fireproof on Friday along with Radiator King, Cal Folger Day, and Fax Holiday. I can't believe I missed that originally, but here's the info. Sorry, Brian!
