Nyle – Hey Pop

I feel like Nyle's new mixtape, Trailer, isn't getting nearly enough love. I've had it on repeat for a few days and he's definitely a talent to be reckoned with. "Hey Pop" is one of the more heartfelt tracks on the album. It's an ode to his father and an apology for not being closer.

The vinyl scratch all over "Hey Pop" is very telling. Coupled with the live band, it places the sound somewhere in the previous generation – his father's generation. It's a pretty touching effect on a surprisingly open song for the hip hop genre. Nyle spares no detail when talking about the rough parts of his life so far and how his father's influence motivated him. It's not often I hear a rap song that makes me sit back and appreciate my family.
