Mississippi Sawyer on The Dig Sessions

Dig Sessions are just an excuse to get out into the world, make friends, and document music. We are trying to capture all music, of all genres and musicianship levels. In our modern world of iPods and mp3s it is easy to forget that not so many years ago if you wanted to hear music you had to either play it yourself, or watch someone else play. That is the soul of The Dig Sessions, watching people play music. Single takes, no gimmicks. Just a microphone and a camera capturing REAL music with all its beautiful imperfections. View all

Mississippi Sawer

Welcome to the first ever installment of The Dig Sessions. Without further adieu we bring you Mississippi Sawyer.
Mississippi Sawyer is an old-time band from Milwaukee. Banjo, singing saw, washtub bass, washboard, tambourine, and a kick-drum suitcase round out this trio.

Mississippi Sawyer plays old time songs, traditional and original music with members playing homemade instruments and household items as musical instruments. You may find us busking on the street at a farmers market or a festival in and around Milwaukee. —Facebook

They are comprised of Tucker Brand on banjo, vocals, suitcase, Lamont Proper on the washtub bass, and Jen Schrank on the washboard, vocals, saw, and guitar. This track, Ella Speed, features the singing saw. Enjoy.

This is one of three songs we recorded with Mississippi Sawyer. Episode 2 is live so go check it out.
