Ghosts I've Met – Blackwoods

Ghosts I've Met – Blackwoods

Spring is supposed to be here. It most certainly has not come yet. We keep being teased with 65 and sunny, only to be followed two days later with snow covering the ground. And the rain, man. Come on with this rain. Anyways, Ghosts I've Met are dropping a new album, From A Spark, next Tuesday the 12th and the lead-off track soundtracks my feelings about life and weather at the moment.

Ghosts I've Met is the project of Seattle-based musician Sam Watts. After moving to New York, Watts met former Ben Folds Five drummer Darren Jessee who became a collaborator, influence, and band member. With a heavy focus on lyrics, input from Jessee, and the collection of the band, Ghosts I've Met developed their latest album, From A Spark.

"Blackwoods" is so gentle it's almost painful. It softly caresses your ears like it's afraid it may break you. And it does end up breaking you when you connect to the loneliness and wounded pride that the song projects so beautifully. It's indie folk at it's finest with whispered vocals, strummed acoustics, and that deep sense of longing. This should whet your appetite for the full album.
