Our favorite Florida-based gothic folkster, Tobacco Pat, has released a new album called God Moves On The Water. It's every bit as haunting, harrowing, and moving as we've come to expect from the man.
It's been a minute since I've heard from our favorite banjo-slingin' blues crooner, William Elliott Whitmore. I've loved pretty much everything he's ever released and thank the southern soil gods, Whitmore has released a track from his forthcoming album, Field Songs, called "Everything Gets Gone". Take it home, William.
Cellist Ben Sollee has been on my radar for awhile and with the release of his album Inclusions last week, he's made me a full-fledged fan. It's a bit misleading to simply call him a "cellist" as he's really a talented indie songwriter and composer who just happens to play the most beautiful sounding instrument on Earth.
Mayer Hawthorne has released a free EP calledImpressions. We're huge Mayer fans and have been waiting quite awhile for some new material, so this is quite the pleasant surprise.

It's time for another installment of Label Year, in which I write about every release by the label Arts & Crafts in 2011. In the spotlight tonight is the album Here Comes a City by the band Memphis.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have released the, "Morning Thought", the first single from their forthcoming album It's A Corporate World. It's one of those tracks that gives you chills before you even begin to wade through it's complex soundscape. More, please.
I've been a little bit obsessed with Darwin Deez's song "Bad Day" lately, and now I'm a little bit obsessed with the video. As everyone knows by now, I'm a sucker for music videos with animated text ("Fuck You", "All Of The Lights"), but this video might be the crown jewel. The pictures make the lyrics even funnier and the song even catchier.
I love Deez's voice and melodies. He sounds so lazy and off the wall, but it ends up being so endearing and addictive. He also has a great ability to use his goofiness as a means to pretty heartfelt songs. But, maybe the reason I actually love this video so much is because it reminds me of this absolute classic:
I was recently introduced to a cool new record label out of London called Mostar Records. Despite being formed only a few months ago, they are off to a fast start and have released an eclectic batch of music. I also have had a chance to talk with label co-founder Luke Manning. Read on for my interview and to sample some tunes!
