My Work Week in Sound

Recently I've found that the way I listen to music has changed. Circumstance and schedule have really got me down in the past few weeks and my listening has been almost entirely driven by deadlines, and work functions. With a run out of shows in DC, preparation and rehearsal for a concert with the Peabody Camerata, a full time high school music education position, and a few miscellaneous free lance musician obligations my blogger research time has suffered.

On the other hand I have had the opportunity to polish the dust off of a few old favorites that have been lost in the shuffle for way too long. This is a small selection of music I have been listening too lately because of work that is absolutely worth hearing, regardless of the context.

Check it out, you'll not find a more eclectic list of music in the blogosphere today!

Radiohead – Lotus Flower

Posting things that every single other blog in the Blogosphere is currently writing about is something I try to avoid. But, goddammit, it's Radiohead! In case you're under a massive rock, Radiohead unexpectantly released their album, The King of Limbs, today instead of tomorrow. The Greatest Band in the World also released this video of Thom Yorke gettin' down and dirty for the song "Lotus Flower". It's haunting, beautiful, and full of all the emotion we've come to expect from these masters of their craft. What a great Friday.

w/ When You Awake

The Blogger Lowdown is a feature where we ask the good people who run our favorite, essential blogs to give some insight on themselves and their sites. Jody of When You Awake was nice enough to drop us a few lines about herself and her blog.

E.D.G.E. – Pabst Smeared

Cringe-inducing song title. Head nod-inducing jam. Plus, how could I not post a song about PBR? E.D.G.E. is releasing three tracks every week leading up to All Flow Everything, and this one's pretty sick.

Hezekiah Jones – Lift the Shadow From This Heart

Our buddy Smansmith over at Slowcoustic premiered this video today for the hauntingly beautiful Hezekiah Jones track "Lift the Shadow From This Heart". Let's let the man himself explain it: "The video is a great slowed down black and white clip with the song almost floating above the visuals. Not that the visuals necessarily have anything to do with the song per se, but they are just a great background to the song."

Remember to pick up Have You Seen Our New Fort? when it drops (on vinyl too!) March 29.

Peter Wolf Crier

I was a bit torn about getting this one written. On the one hand, I'm having the extremely lazy day I've needed so badly after the last few hell weeks at work. On the other hand, I've only just discovered Peter Wolf Crier's album, Inter-Be, and it's wrapped my chilly soul in a nice, warm argyle sweater. Back to the first hand, the album came out in 2009 (that's 136 B.C. in Blog Years). Then again, I'd be doing myself and most importantly our loyal readers a giant disservice if I didn't introduce you to this band.

XV – F.I.F.A.

XV is rapidly becoming one of my favorite MCs. The man makes great jams, plays video games, likes Michel Gondry, reads comics, and (apparently) is into soccer. He's me but, ya know, cooler and more talented.

Here's a new song and video apparently not from his (hopefully) soon to be released album, The Kid With The Green Backpack. I couldn't physically be more amped for this to drop. "F.I.F.A." has Vizzy's clever wordplay and pop culture references – as always. The beat is smooth and bassy, with a great, ghostly subtle piano sample in the background. The video is down-to-earth and creative. It's simply side-to-side shots of the same scene played out differently, but it's entertaining and different.
